We have all dreamt of a Pretty Woman moment when our handsome (perhaps wealthy) stranger whisks us away to fabulously well-to-do events like the polo, and we shine like Julia Roberts does in her brown and white polka dot ensemble. Well that moment is a little easier to recreate now with the Paspaley Polo in the city, bring the horse mounted game to a capital city near you.
Like the racing, expect a fun atmosphere, social setting and getting up close to the game itself. But don’t dress for a racing carnival. With a light hearted atmosphere the style is more laid back and very chic. keep reading for our tips on what to wear to make sure you come out winning in the fashion stakes.
Shoes A key element to any outfit (and our favourite, of course) but super important with any polo ensemble since we all know that stilettos and grass do not mix. You do not want to be the lady sinking into the grass, whilst trying to stay glam. (And yes, even in the marquee’s or tents most socialising and polo banter will be carried out on grass floors). One of the traditions of the polo is the ‘stomping of the divots’ or pushing all the little holes made by the polo players back into the grass with your feet. Hence appropriate footwear is essential to be involved! Wedges are the best option if you are going for a heel, since they wont let you sink. Another option is the jewelled flat to keep things dressy but comfortable. If you are trying to keep things clean and elegant, a nice simple flat is the way to go. Think a ballet flat in neutral or a classic leather sandal.
Head ware Ladies, do not wear fascinators. The only head wear should be appropriate to sun protection! A beautiful hat does wonders for an outfit, so think summery with broad brims and pops of colour.
Dress Look the part in a beautiful white number, whether floaty, or tighter, longer or shorter, but remember that as a daytime event: keep it classy! So not too short ladies ;). A floral maxi will also see you through with top style points. Dresses with floral prints or in bold block colours will work brilliantly with the outdoor setting. If a dress isn’t your thing, make a summer statement with loose pants and a bright kaftan over the top. Equally, if it is a bit cooler, tailored pants and a nice shirt will look fresh and sharp.

Handbag Remember that you will be out all day, and carrying a cardigan or jacket is necessary for if it might turn cooler. Think a shoulder bag big enough to fit the essentials on the day, but nothing to big that you will have trouble lugging it around all day. This Laura Di Maggio would be perfect…
The Paspaley Polo in the City will be in Adelaide this Friday at Victoria Park. Have a bast and dont forget your sunnies!
