Festival footwear.

IMG_5953

We trust if you live in Adelaide and/or enjoy the combination of music, fairy lights and creative energy then you’ll know that it is festival season in our wee little city of churches.

Where do you start?

Who do you see?

What do you do?

There’re late nights in The Garden of Unearthly Delights, many games of croquet at the Royal Croquet Club, the crown jewel that is Womadelaide as well as bars and restaurants filled with musos, comedians, improv theater and everything in between.

With so many decisions to make this Mad March, why not let us take care of the ever important footwear dilemmas? We’re ready to help and have some super jazzy styles to take you from the grassy knolls of the Garden to the rooftop bars of the night!

Yes, ok? You ready for our Mad March suggestions? Here we go then…

The Penny Loafer

Penny Loafers are a great slip on option for those sophisticated shows in the numerous marquees sprouting up in the Garden of Unearthly Delights. They’re perfect for the smart gals who like style to be easy and on trend, as well as super comfortable. Sunny afternoons spent rolling about on the lawns of the Botanic Gardens with a cheeky friend or wine (or both!), are made immeasurably better with a pair of these on your feet.

Great to wear with everything, from your summer frocks to your casual jeans!

Wedge Sandals

Perfect for those late night jaunts when you want to grab a drink or two after a show. You want a heel but also that absolute comfort that will take you places all night, and we’re not about to make you compromise. Our summer season wedges are not only on sale, but they’re that comfortable that you could wear them forever!

Wear with skirts and skinny jeans or cuffed boyfriend jeans- throw them on and you’re ready to roll!

Brogue

A go-to enclosed shoe for those unexpected summer showers that pop up each year in Adelaide around Mad March! Wear with anything, as you would the Penny Loafer and Wedge Sandal.  Jump into your brogues for an edgy look – juxtapose sweet dresses and floaty shirts and tunics with the masculinity of the cherri bellini style brogues. Make a statement.

So if you’re feeling just a little bit ill prepared, think of cherri bellini when your feet start to get a little tired – we’ve got the lot! See you at the Garden.

Top Shoe Trends for Spring/Summer

cherri bellini’s top shoe trends for Spring/Summer 13

Spring has sprung down here in the land of Aus, and with it comes the ever popular change from winter clothing the breezier, lighter and happier spring clothing. Although we here in Adelaide know that spring often has a few wintry surprises for us – that doesn’t stop us being forward thinking in our footwear! So what are the top shoe trends for this season to keep you looking totally fabulous and stylish? Read the list below!

Colour Pops – Keep your spring look fresh as a daisy with pops of bright colour or colour block the whole look with a bright shoe. Not sure how? You can either colour block with complimentary colours or contrasting. Take yellow for example – compliment it with orange and pink hues and contrast it with aqua and blue hues. If your still a bit bleary eyed from coming out of hibernation and the all over colour look isn’t your thing, try pairing a bright shoe back with white for a hint of colour. Here are a selection of our favourite colour pop shoes in store now!

Bold prints – Think bright, eye catching and floral. There is nothing new about floral prints in spring (come on – its when all the flowers start blooming!) but this season its big and bold, like on the catwalks of London Fashion Week. We love these floral print wedges! Throw them on with a summer hat and tunic dress or pair with a cool summer maxi for ultimate summer style.

70’s style – Wooden themes, clogs, platforms and studs: this is one boho vibe for Spring/Summer! Whether you chuck on a pair of platform wedges or work some studs into your flats, this trend is easy to pair with all your summer clothes. Think denim shorts, harem pants or maxi skirts. Leave your hair wavy and nonchalant to channel the screen sirens of the 70’s or chuck in a few braids to get the boho look flowing.

First to kick of proceedings is the Adelaide Fringe festival. Renowned for it’s diversity and creativity the Fringe covers all multitudes of events, gatherings and shindigs, from cabaret to comedy, puppetry to pop-up locations, and involves the whole city. Happy 2012!

It’s that time of year when we are all thinking about resolutions and things we want to achieve through out the year.

We’ve heard the best way to stick to these goals we make in the first few days of January, in a flush of New Year’s after glow, is to break them down into bite sized pieces.

So if you’ve got a biggie, like ‘quit smoking’, or ‘lose weight’, then start with that but write down how you’re going to get there too. Be really realistic. Like, we mean really.

Don’t kid yourself that going cold turkey will work straight off. Maybe start with ‘I’m not going to smoke a cigarette with my morning coffee anymore’. Then in a month’s time when that’s under control, add in something else like, ‘Now I’m not going smoke in my car any more either ‘ and keep working up to it. Write it all down and plan it out too. Put it on a calendar even or in your diary. It takes the pressure off but lets you creep up on your goal and actually get there.

Same with everything else. Don’t kid yourself in all your good intentions and enthusiasm that you will keep up going to the gym everyday. Aim for twice a week. That’s realistic. Or maybe it’s not right now, maybe once a week is but it’s better than nunce! Slow and steady wins the race!

Most of the time it comes down to priorities too. You’ve got to want it. When I was into photography, once upon a time, I was whingeing to a friend of mine about how I ‘couldn’t afford film’ (yes, it was a while ago ok, pre-digi!) and how I’d ‘do more of it if I had more money’. He just looked at me and said ‘Funny, you can afford to have a beer here at the pub with me but yet you can’t afford the few dollars for film. That’s interesting, isn’t it?’ ….Ouch, he shot me! But he was right and I remember that to this day. Sometimes you’ve got to make a few sacrifices for the greater good and stop making excuses for yourself.

So yeah, don’t have that croissant every morning before work if you’re trying to save for a holiday. Take the money you spend on coffee every day and get a pedicure at the end of the week instead, if you want some more pampering in your life. Work a way around it, whatever it is!

Here at cherri we are writing lists. We’re calling these lists ‘In 2012 I will…’ They’ve got all sorts on them, from climbing Mt Lofty, to tandem skydiving, to getting to the dentist! And they’re long (better odds of achieving some of them at least!).

We’re sticking them up in our back room so we see them everyday and we keep each other on track.

What’s on your list this year and how are you going to get there?

Oh and here’s some photos of shoes, just in case you thought you were on the wrong blog! :D

Donna Loka by Marcopizzi,  Italian leather flat sandal $90

It’s coming up party season and maybe you can’t have a different pair of shoes for every party/B.B.Q./get together that you are going to (wouldn’t that just be the life!), so you need to make one or two do all the jobs for you.

May we present the comfy flat option. Or Plan S (for sandal).

A flat sandal like the one above can take you to an office Christmas party when paired back with a simple black outfit like a cool summer jumpsuit. Jazz it up with a blingy clutch bag and you are comfortable, stylish, classy and definitely not under dressed in any way.

Day time function? Maybe something on grass? Do not fall prey to the idea that heels on grass is a good look. Struggling to keep your balance (and your dignity) while you core the lawn is no easy feat and should be avoided at all costs or left to the professionals! Outdoors should be handled in flats or wedges whenever possible!

Work your flats back with a cute skirt, maybe some stripes and a colourful bag, just for funzies!

Justify getting those metallic shorts you have had your eye on by knowing you can dress them down. Metallic finishes are no longer just for evenings or very dressy events. They work really well with a more casual vibe too. Throw them back with your flats and an oversized bag to bring them down a notch or two, then dial them back up with heels and some bling when you need to. Early evening soiree, sorted.

See, one little sandal, multiple outfits, looks and events! Hello party season! :)

Prep your tootsies for summer

Are your feet summer sandals ready?

Take some advice from the US Glamour magazine…we’ll be trying this when we get home for sure.milk pedicure
  • Take a milk bath. Not as ridiculous as it sounds! The lactic acid in the milk will help smooth calluses, so fill a large bowl or tub with equal parts milk and warm water, add a few drops of lavender oil, and soak your feet for five to ten minutes.
  • Care for your cuticles. Rub a drop of cuticle oil into each toenail bed and push back any thickened skin with an orangewood stick. Use a coarse-grain emery board to file your nails straight across to prevent ingrowns, and then slightly round the edges.
  • Soften your soles. Refill the bowl with clean water, then thoroughly exfoliate both feet with a coarse foot scrub and rinse them clean. Remove calluses on your heels, the balls of your feet, and your toes with a foot file or pumice stone.
  • Add some moisture. After rinsing off the scrub, coat your feet and lower legs in a moisturizing foot mask. Let the ingredients sink in for five to ten minutes, then rinse your feet and legs.
  • Prepare your nails. Pat your feet dry, then massage in a hydrating foot cream. Wipe the lotion off nails with a nonacetone polish remover pad before slipping in a pair of foam toe separators. Swipe a basecoat from bottom to top of each toenail.
  • Paint away. Apply three strips of polish, one up the center, then one on either side. After about two minutes, paint on a second coat, and follow with a topcoat after another two minutes. Let your toes dry for at least an hour.
Top Tip – Nail polish is a great way of tying in a colour into an outfit. Match it back to a bag or accessory that might not be the colours in your clothing. An easy way to pull it all together!
